In a rematch of the 1978 Garden State Bowl, Arizona State and Rutgers meet for the final Insight Bowl to be played at Chase Field in downtown Phoenix. Rutgers, known as the birthplace of college football, makes only its second post-season appearance in school history. Despite the valiant offensive effort on both sides, it is ASU's redshirt quarterback Rudy Carpenter and the Sun Devils who come out victorious over the Scarlet Knights, 45-40. Carpenter's record-setting 678 yards helps ASU win its second consecutive bowl game for the first time since 1987.
