2006 NBA playoffs: quick thoughts
Duncan still the man The 2006 NBA playoffs started off rather slowly, but business has picked up as of late. We've seen a surge in play from some of the first round series, as well as a strong opening to the second round. To me, it's amazing that the Spurs were being "underdogged" by a couple of so-called experts coming into the series versus the Mavericks. If the second half of game 1 was any indication, it's going to be vintage Spurs in 6. Here are some other quick playoff thoughts.

There is just not enough proven talent on the Cavaliers team to compete in this matchup. Larry Hughes and Drew Gooden will have to have the series of their lives for Cleveland to even win twice, let alone four times. Detroit is just too good and the Cavs just too inexperienced for LeBron to have any fun in this one. Think about it. Cleveland actually had a hard time scoring against the Wizards in certain spots and that is not a good sign.
-Los Angeles versus the Suns will be a good series. Everyone is on the Phoenix bandwagon, but I would caution that porous defense will once again force the Suns to score 120 points per game here. Elton Brand poses some serious matchup problems for Phoenix. I just don't see superstar defender Raja Bell being strong enough to handle him. In any event, it'll be a fun series to watch and one that should go the distance either way.
-I don't care what people say about the Heat and Nets series. All it is is a competition to lose to Detroit in the next round. The Pistons are simply too deep and experienced to compete with. So give all the kudos you want to Shaq and Carter and Wade and Kidd, none of them are going to the finals.
