The New England Patriots lost their preseason opener 26 - 13 to the Atlanta Falcons. Tom Brady played for one series. He completed three straight passes for 24 yards. Matt Cassel came in and wanted to prove he was ready to be Brady's back-up. After a shaky start he threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to Patrik Cobbs. In the fourth quarter, Cassel directed drives of 80 and 77 yards. He finished 13/26 for 229 yards.
