2009 Belmont Stakes Horse Racing

Belmont Stakes horse racing, limited to 3-year old's, is the third and last segment in the race for the Triple Crown. The annual Belmont Stakes horse racing event, the longest race of the three, is run on an oval dirt track for a distance of a mile and a half. A prize of $1,000,000 is awarded to the winner of the Belmont Stakes horse racing championship. The top contenders in this race are often the winners from two previous races, the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, with a few exceptions.

There are several factors to consider in Belmont Stakes horse racing before placing a bet. The breeding line, or pedigree, is perhaps one of the most important considerations. A total of eleven winners have sired at least one other previous winner. Many of the Belmont Stakes winners have been bred in Kentucky, but again there have been exceptions. Experience and size of the horses is relatively unimportant, as well, and will not necessarily predict a winner in the Belmont Stakes. A combination of stamina and speed is needed for this demanding race. Furthermore, recent history has shown that four out of the six winners in the field of contenders for the Belmont Stakes were "longshots."

There are a number of ways to bet on the Belmont stakes, and online betting sites offer a wealth of advice, including the latest odds, contenders, track conditions, and other useful tips for horse race gambling. The most common types of wagers are win, place, and show, betting on first, second, and third place winners. Another popular wager is across the board, a bet on only one horse. If the horse wins, you collect three ways, if it places, collect two ways, and if third, collect only one bet for show.

In addition, there are other exotic or fancy Belmont Stakes horse racing wagers. The exacta, or perfecta, is a bet on the first two winners in a chosen order, and the trifecta is for the three winners in exact order. These two bets have higher payouts and offer a great way to analyze the odds. Other options include the quinella, picking the first two winners, in no particular order, and the superfecta, betting on four winners, in a chosen order. Pick six winners in the same day and win the jackpot!

Once you're familiar with the types of online betting, place your wager, await the official results, and enjoy the excitement of Belmont Stakes horse racing.
