Bet March Madness 2011

2011 March Madness Bets by Bobby Latrel

Did you know that more people bet March madness than on the Superbowl? March madness gives sports fans the opportunity to enjoy the NCAA's College basketball tournaments and to make some money at the same time. It has never been easier to bet March madness, especially with the large range of betting options now available.

Before you bet on the 64 teams in the games, you should first get to grips with a little bit of March madness history as statistics from the game's past can help give you the edge when you want to make a winning bet. The NCAA set up the 64-team competition in 1985 and ever since then the first seeded team has never lost to the 16th seeded team in the first round. That makes a 52-0 record. Second seeded teams have also done well - they've won 95% of the time in the past 20 years. In the 8th versus 9th seed match-ups, the 8th seed has won 58% of games. It's not madness to be informed on your bet!

One of our most popular college basketball handicappers, Matt Foust, had an outstanding college basketball picks season last year. All of his original Final Four picks were alive heading into the Elite Eight except Kansas! Matt's 2011 Final Four predictions was to have Kansas beat Ohio State but after this year's bracket surprise, I would bet on less than a handful predicted the 2011 Final Four teams. His NCAA basketball picks to win the 2011 Championship Title are now in! Enjoy the final madness!

East Region - Ohio State
West Region - Texas
Southwest Region - Kansas
Southeast Region - Florida

Butler - Winner of Southwest vs Southeast Bracket

UConn - Winner of East vs West Bracket

UConn - Final Champion

For the best March madness bets, experts advise that you make larger plays on games with low point spreads. According to them, it is wiser to win or to lose in a game situation. If you want to fill out your brackets and win the pool you're in, you definitely don't want your bet determined by the plays in the closing minutes (the "garbage time") of a game. Look out for the underdogs too. During the early rounds of March madness, there is traditionally a high number of upsets. It can be worthwhile to examine the match-ups closely. If you find an underdog team that can match-up well, it may prove to be an excellent bet.

Bet statistics asides, another expert T.C. Martin, the radio personality and sportswriter recommends that you do some background research during March madness. Investigate the conferences, the teams, the players and especially the turnover of players - those graduating and the high school players coming in to the tournament. In one year, the University of Arizona lost 80% of their starters due to player turnovers. As a result, Arizona didn't even rank in the pre-season top twenty five. The next March madness tournament, they had a line-up of freshmen and sophomores and only one junior player. Arizona went on to become one of the top teams in the country. Who says its madness?
