Today on www.BetUSradio.com - Hard-luck Brigade braced for Crushby Mark Rothstein![]() National games get noticed The Colorado Crush look ready for the stretch run as they prepare to defend their Arena Football League title. The next step along the way to a repeat takes place in Kansas City this Sunday, when the Crush take on the Brigade in a nationally televised (1 p.m. Eastern, NBC) AFL inter-conference bout at Kemper Arena. With a victory, Colorado clinches a spot in this season's AFL playoffs. Colorado sits atop the Central Division and the American Conference at 8-3, including 5-1 within the division, with five regular-season games to play. After dropping two games in a row, the Crush have since won two in a row after beating Grand Rapids 73-48 last Saturday, covering the seven-point spread. The game also easily went over the posted total of 103. In just its third year of existence, Colorado won ArenaBowl XIX last season on a last-second field goal, 51-48 over Georgia. Since hiring head coach Mike Dailey in 2003, the Crush are 32-14. In their inaugural season in the AFL, the Brigade sit in last place in the National Conference's Southern Division with a record of 2-9 (0-6 in the division). But Kansas City is coming off its best performance of the season last Sunday, a 62-45 win over the Los Angeles Avengers as two-point underdogs, breaking a six-game losing streak in the process. The Brigade recently released veteran quarterback Andy Kelly, handing the starting job over to Chris Sanders. Sanders has responded fairly well, hitting on 26 of 32 passing attempts last week with seven touchdowns vs. the Avengers. K.C. jumped out to a 20-7 first-quarter lead, and after some give-and-take throughout the middle of the game, outscored L.A. 21-10 in the fourth quarter to ice down the victory. Aaron Boone set Brigade team records in the game vs. the Avengers with 13 catches for 157 yards and five scores. The Colorado offense, which is tied for second in the league with 74 touchdowns, is sparked by specialist Damian Harrell, who leads the league with 1,222 receiving yards and 35 touchdowns. Quarterback John Dutton sports a 62% completion rate and a 108.9 rating, with 59 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions. The Crush are scoring 56 points per game and allowing 53 points per game. Kansas City is last in the league in offense with 52 touchdowns and an average of just 42 points per game. But the Brigade is also only allowing 51 points per game. This has led to K.C. suffering several close losses. Among the Brigade's nine defeats are a four-point decision to Austin, a six-point loss to New York, a seven-pointer to Orlando and an eight-pointer to Georgia. The Kansas City defense has allowed 64 touchdowns this season, the eighth-fewest total in the AFL. The Brigade offense has had its struggles at times this season, but the 62 points scored against L.A. was their highest point total of the season. K.C. has had a frustratingly tough time jumping on loose balls this season. But the Brigade defense can boast of its 17 interceptions, the second-highest total in the league, four of which have been returned for scores. The Crush are ranked No. 2 in the latest Schutt Sports AFL Top 12 poll with 174 points, behind only Dallas with 190 points. The Crush are 6-4-1 against the spread on the season, while the Brigade is 5-6 vs. the number this season. This will be the first meeting between these two teams.
