BetUS female members in spotlight

BetUS.com's media coverage has exploded as of late. Prominent radio stations, newspapers and even television networks across the country have been reporting on our odds, props and even our members! With the hype and wagering craze surrounding the Oscars, two of BetUS.com's female members were consulted for their opinions on the lead-up to this major annual event. Here are excerpts from two articles.

One such risk-taker is Meredith Lomac, 27, of Mountain View. Lomac considers herself a "casual entertainment bettor," and says she based five $50 bets on knowledge gleaned from tabloid rags such as Star magazine and US Weekly. When she was ready to lay some money down, she did so at BetUS.com, a site recommended by friends.

"My guy friends were on the site doing sports, and I saw that they had an entertainment section," she said. Lomac adds that she'll be watching the Oscars with the same group of friends. "Of course I'm watching -- I have money on it. Just like guys watch a game they bet on, I'll watch every second."

"I'm having a great time with it," said Melissa Baker, 27, who has been betting on entertainment matters for a little more than a year. "I was hanging out with my guy friends, and they were betting on sports online. I saw this entertainment thing on the sites and I thought - that I could do. I can answer these, I can get money."

Baker, who works at a retailer in Miami, says she only bets for fun and is careful to stay within her means. "I don't even look at the odds," Baker said. "I just spend $25 or $50 on these bets."

For the upcoming Oscars, Baker has bet in four categories. She's banking on Ang Lee to win best director (1-to-12 odds at BetUS.com), Heath Ledger to win best actor (2-to-1), Reese Witherspoon to win best actress (1-to-6) and "Murderball" to win best documentary (7-to-1).

Baker relies on her intuition as well as magazines such as InTouch and US Weekly, but the approximately 15 online gambling sites with Oscar betting put much more research into the odds.
