MLS Betting Preview: Chivas USA vs New England Revolution

MLS Betting Preview
Chivas USA at New England
Thursday, September 11, 2008 7:00 pm Eastern - ESPN 2

The New England Revolution will end a very busy couple of months on Thursday as they host Chivas USA. The Revolution will have played 11 games in just 38 days. It is not been a good time for New England as they have only one win with three draws during this stretch of games. They will get a 10-day break after Thursday's match. "One thing we have to do is understand where we are. When you can't run, you can't compete and at the present time, we can't run. We can't close the ball and when we do get it, we can't go past people. When you go to make challenges, you're a half-yard short," New England coach Steve Nicol said. Last season the Revolution finished poorly but played well in the playoffs to reach the MLS Cup Final.
"The only problem with that is with the young guys, the old heads will understand the situation, but it's tough on the young guys," Nicol said, "You always have a tough time at some stage of the season and we're getting it now. They have to realize what it's all about." New England is tied for second place in the Eastern Conference with the Chicago Fire. Both teams have 38 points, five back of division leading Columbus.

Chivas USA is in third place in the Western Conference with 30 points, a point behind Real Salt Lake and two points ahead of San Jose. Chivas is coming off a 3-1 win against Toronto FC. It was a big win for Chivas to keep them in playoff position. "It's incredibly important. I think right now we put ourselves in a really good spot to push in the last seven games for a playoff spot, maybe we can get into the second round," Chivas head coach Preki said. "We're going to try."
