There were a lot of close calls for HC Jeff Genyk's Eastern Michigan Eagles last season, with five of their seven losses by 3 points or less, but they again wound up below .500. The Eagles' Offense did not perform as expected last year, and that was with eight starters.

This year, they have a new QB but at least he'll have some good Receivers and a solid Offensive Line The 2005 Defense was better than a year previous, reducing 42 PPG allowed in '04 to 27 PPG last season. Seven from that D return and they have depth, so look for even more point shaving this season.

Special Teams looks great as it returns intact. The Eagles are still green, however, and they face the toughest schedule in the MAC this season. There will no doubt be a few more heartbreakers in '06.
