Euro2008 Qualifiers

World Cup 2006 host Germany looks to stay perfect in its Euro2008 qualification campaign and grab the lead in Group D.

Coach Joachim Loew has taken over right where Juergen Klinsmann left off from the World Cup. And the three-time European champions are considerable favourites on Wednesday in Cyprus.

"It would be great if our winning streak continues. And I think we'll beat Cyprus," German legend Franz Beckenbauer said confidently.

Loew does, however, have four injury concerns heading into the final Euro2008 qualifiers game day of 2006. Goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is out with a fever, striker Lukas Podolski is dealing with an ankle problem, Bernd Schneider has a thigh problem and midfielder Piotr Trochkowski is facing an Achilles' injury.

Timo Hildebrand from Bundesliga leader VfB Stuttgart will take over for Lehmann, and look for Oliver Neuville to fill in for Podolski alongside Miroslav Klose in the attack.

But Cyprus, which has three points from three games, would be hard-pressed to knock off a German side in fine form. With a victory, Loew's team will pass the Czech Republic for the top spot in Group D with a perfect 12 points ,while the Czechs have 10 from four matches.

Also in Group D, the Republic of Ireland has what could be its final chance to right its ship as it faces San Marino. The Irish have just one point from three games.

The light Euro2008 qualifiers schedule also includes top matches in Groups A and E.

Belgium hosts Poland in a battle of teams with seven points from four Group A games. Either team could pull even with leader Serbia, which has 10 points but would have a match in hand. Meanwhile, Finland, which has eight points, is a heavy favourite at home against lightweight Armenia.

In Group E, Israel and Croatia face off with both teams looking to take over supremacy in the group as each has seven points from three games. Macedonia, which hosts Russia, also has seven points but from four contests.

England is in the same boat as Macedonia and will watch anxiously what happens from afar. The Brits are also in action, but only in a top-notch friendly at Holland.

That game is just one of a series of high-profile international friendlies on the final national team day of the season.

The Czech Republic welcomes Denmark, while Turkey travels to World Cup champion Italy.

World Cup runner-up France plays host to Greece, and Spain looks to finally get back on track at home against Romania.

The Euro2008 co-hosts are also in action on Wednesday as Austria hosts Trinidad & Tobago, while Switzerland will find out just how strong it is in a tough home test against Brazil.
