Fantasy Football Draft

The Fantasy Football draft can be one of the most exciting aspects of participating in this exciting sports pastime. After establishing a Fantasy Football league, appointing team owners and a commissioner, and establishing your league rules, then the Fantasy Football draft is your next step.

Setting up the draft is usually up to your league commissioner, although he or she may enlist someone else's help. There is usually a central website where the commissioner and all the owners in the league can go and check on stats, leave messages back and forth, and also participate in the Fantasy Football draft.

Once it is time for the draft, there are a couple of ways that it can be done. The most common Fantasy Football draft is the kind that is done in order. Each team "owner" gets a number, and for the first round of the draft, the owner that is assigned number one gets to choose a player first, the owner that is assigned number two gets to choose a player second, and so on. For the next draft round, the numbers will usually go in reverse, with the owner that has the last number choosing first, etc. This way everyone gets a fair shot at getting some good players for their Fantasy Football team. No two owners can have the same player; once a player is chosen, he cannot be chosen by anyone else.

The second type of draft is the auction draft. In this type of draft the owners are each given a budget with which to bid for players. This does not mean that they have to spend real money; the budget given is simply "fun money" for bidding purposes. If an owner pays a high amount for one player, then he or she has less money for other players, so each owner has to carefully consider his or her choices. The auction draft can be a very exciting way to build teams, and it adds to the overall competitive feel of Fantasy Football.

No matter which type of Fantasy Football draft is used, league owners need to decide on certain things such as what types of players they want to draft or bid for first, when or how much they should bid for their quarterbacks, running backs, etc. Once the league Fantasy Football teams are chosen, however, owners do have the option of trading players. There is usually a place on the league website where owners can request a trade or look to see if anyone else has requested one.
