The Texas Rangers had an excellent opportunity to make up some ground against the A's with four games against the Tampa Bay Devil rays. However, the Ranger bats went silent and they went on to lose three of the four. They salvaged last night's game by a 4-3 count, and literally had to sweat out every inning to hold on for the win. Oakland just keeps on humming along, and looks to be the cream of the crop in the AL West. The currently hold a 5-game lead over the 2nd place Angels and a 7 game lead over the Rangers. Surprisingly, the Rangers have gotten the best of Oakland to date leading the season series by a 7-6 count. However, Barry Zito flat out owns these guys with a 16-4 record and overall ERA of 3.65. Though he was flat out embarrassed the last time he faced this line-up as the Rangers avoided the sweep in Oakland by pounding him for 11 hits and 6 earned runs in 5 innings of work. Look for redemption to be sought this evening. The A's have won 21 of their L/27 overall, and took 11 of the L/13 games they've played under the lights. Lay the short chalk with the visitor as Zito silences the Ranger bats and continues his mastery of Texas.
