Free Poker Strategy

One of the best things that you can learn if you are trying to become a much better poker player is a free poker strategy. A free poker strategy is one that you can learn without having to pay a professional poker tutor. Here are some good strategies:

Strategy #1 - Only keep your hand if your hand keeps you. Your pre-flop hand really needs to be great to stay in. If it doesn't make you excited inside, it probably isn't a good hand. Your best hand will be AA, AK, JJ, QQ or KK. If you have one of these, raise or re-raise your opponents before the flop.

Strategy #2 - Good hands can bring great results. If you start with a 10, 10, 9, 9, AQ, or KQ, you should continue to play. Raise to scare off a few others, as your chances with this hand is better with fewer players in the pot.

Strategy #3 - 88, AJ, AT, KJ, QJ, JT, QT should be played with caution. This is the first free poker strategy that will have you looking at suit. Consider folding if there have been a lot of bets before you. If there have been a number of drop outs, though, or the players are reluctant, you might have a fighting chance. It'll be a nail-biter, though.

Strategy #4 - Consider your opponent. Watch how he plays. Consider what he is holding. You can't control the cards he's dealt but you can control how you deal with his cards.

Strategy #5 - Play with your behaviors. Just as you are considering your opponents' actions and making assumptions based on them, he is considering you as well. Don't be predictable. Mix your style or switch tables often.

Strategy #6 - Stay in the game. It's common for beginners and intermediate players alike to stay in the game until the flop, often folding to overcorrect themselves. Your options aren't "raise or fold"; you can always call or check.

Strategy #7 - Know the pot odds. There are many pot odd calculators available to help you learn when to fold your cards.

Strategy #8 - Choose a four color deck. Most online poker rooms will allow you to choose traditional (red/black) decks or a four color deck (usually red, black, green, blue - one for each suit.) It is much easier to pick out your flush possibilities.
