Thirteen countries managed to appear for the first game which was won by Uruguay when they beat Argentina by two goals. Turkey, Scotland and South Koreas got through to the finals for the first time. In 1958, Sweden held the games and in 1962, it was Chile, but in 1966, England held the games and also held the cup for the first time and regaled in the glory as they claimed that football had come home. In the following years Mexico, Argentina, Spain, West Germany, the USA and France have hosted unforgettable tournaments and introduced the world to some impeccable players including Bobby Moore, Pele, Maradona, David Beckham, Ronaldo and Robert Baggio.
