Horse Race Gambling

When it comes to succeeding in horse race gambling, knowing the language and the definitions of all the horse race gambling lingo is one of the first things you should do. Here are some of the words that you will hear often in the horse race gambling world. Make them a part of your language and watch your winnings rise.

When you place a bet on a horse to win, this is called a straight wager. If you get a win, it means that your horse won the race. If you bet on a horse to place, then this means that your bet will pay off if your horse comes in first or second. And if you bet on your horse to show, this means that your bet will pay off if your horse comes in first, second, or third. So in horse race gambling, your horse can win, place, or show (or all three if he comes in first) and you will make a little extra cash.

The following are more complex bets in horse race gambling known as exotic wagers.

  • Exacta - Exacta bets concern two horses. If you bet that Dreamer will come in after Southpaw and it happens - Dreamer places first and Southpaw comes in second - then you win!
  • Exacta Box - An exacta box bet is like two exacta bets on the same two horses. You bet that Dreamer will come in first and Southpaw second at the same time that you bet Southpaw will win and Dreamer will come in second. If either of these happens, you win!
  • Exacta Wheel - You would place an exacta wheel bet if you know who will come in first or second, but don't feel as confident on the other spots in the winner's circle. You can pick or key Dreamer for second place and bet with all for first.
  • Exacta Partial Wheel - This is just like an exacta wheel bet, except that you narrow down the horses who fit into the with all category.
  • Pick 3 - You place a pick 3 bet by choosing the first place winner of three consecutive races. These bets must be posted before the first race begins and if even one of your picks doesn't come in first, then you lose.
  • Trifecta - A trifecta bet is similar to an exacta bet except you must choose the first three finishers of a race (instead of the first two) in the right order. If you choose wrong on any of them, you don't win.
  • Trifecta Box - Similar to an exacta box, you are betting on every possible combination of 3 horses to win the first places in the race.
  • Trifecta Wheel - Like the exacta wheel, one horsed is keyed or chosen for one of the first three winning slots and all the other horses are bet on for the other two slots.
