Early Wednesday morning assistant trainer Larry Benevidez noticed something was wrong with the 3-year-old colt. Jockey Robby Albarado was planning on riding Hurricane Ike instead of Calvin Borel, whom rode him in his last two races, and was hoping he would be the first Derby Trial winner in 52 years to win the Preakness Stakes. Early in the week he worked seven furlongs in 1:25 4/5 with the final five-eighths clocked in 1:01 2/5. "I thought it went well. He hit the ground nice and I think I am in good shape," Albarado mentioned with a snicker, "I put him in tight next to the fence so nobody can sneak inside of him."
