Hurricane Ike Preakness Stakes Betting Odds

Trainer John Sadler will not be entering top Preakness Stakes contender Hurricane Ike into the race this Saturday at Pimlico. Early Wednesday morning assistant trainer Larry Benevidez noticed something was wrong with the 3-year-old colt. Hurricane Ike may have re-aggravated an injury in his left hind leg which he sustained last fall in the Santa Anita Derby. Sadler said was disappointed with the injury but does not expect it to be career-threatening injury and hopes Hurricane Ike will race again later this year.

Jockey Robby Albarado was planning on riding Hurricane Ike instead of Calvin Borel, whom rode him in his last two races, and was hoping he would be the first Derby Trial winner in 52 years to win the Preakness Stakes. Early in the week he worked seven furlongs in 1:25 4/5 with the final five-eighths clocked in 1:01 2/5. "I thought it went well. He hit the ground nice and I think I am in good shape," Albarado mentioned with a snicker, "I put him in tight next to the fence so nobody can sneak inside of him."

Hurricane Ike has a 2-2-1 record in 8 starts. In 2010 with Calvin Borel on the mount, he came in second in the Grade III Bay Shore Stakes on April third. In his last race on April 24th (perfectly timed - three weeks before the Preakness), Hurricane Ike won the Grade III Derby Trial Stakes in 1:36:35.

Hurricane Ike is a 3-year-old colt, owned by
Ike And Dawn Thrash. His trainer is John W. Sadler and Robby Albarado was planning on being the jockey for the PReakness. His pedigree is Graeme Hall and Parental Uproar by Future Storm. Hurricane Ike was posting 10/1 odds to win the Preakness Stakes (a $10 wager pays $100). Good luck betting on the 2010 Preakness and enjoy watching all the intense horse race betting action from Pimlico Race Course, broadcasting live on NBC this Saturday, May 15th at 6:05pm ET.
