Baseball betting: Indians, Jays are solid over playsby Mark RothsteinVernon Wells smacking it The Cleveland Indians have not played up to expectations so far this season - at least not as far as their win-loss record shows. However, the Indians have been paying off for OVER bettors, as a high-powered offense and shaky pitching staff has resulted in 12 runners crossing the plate on average in every Tribe contest. So through their first 31 games of the regular season, Cleveland accumulated a league-leading 21 OVER plays. Where the runs are really being scored this season, however, are in the games involving teams from the American League East division. The Blue Jays (11.4), Orioles (10.9), Yankees (10.3), Devil Rays (10.2), and Red Sox (10.0) are five of the only nine MLB teams currently seeing an average of 10 or more total runs scored in their games. Those five teams aren't riding quite as high on the OVER list though; the Blue Jays' bats have been on fire this season, and the Orioles' arms have been cold, giving them both a healthy 18 OVER plays on the season. The Devil Rays, Red Sox, and Yankees are closer to .500 OU this year, as their scoring statistics have been about as expected. [INSERT13]] Here is a breakdown of each team's runs-scored-per-game, runs-allowed-per-game, and total-runs-per-game statistics through Saturday night's action, ranked high to low. The culprit? A pitching staff that has been unexpectedly solid. OVER bettors should therefore avoid Detroit until their hurlers fall back to earth, or the oddsmakers start lowering the posted totals for all Tigers contests. Comments or Questions?
