June 2-4 Weekend Sports Recapby Robby MadduxThis past weekend was a dandy with action across the board. Starting with the NBA, bettors took the cash who supported the underdogged Dallas Mavericks in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals in a 102-93 victory on Saturday. In the same series, the Mavs and Suns split the cash with a 3-3 ATS mark. Dallas opens the NBA finals at home against the Miami Heat on Thursday night. It will be a showdown of finals' first-timers, the first time that's happened since 1971. On the diamond, the Washington Nationals, Cincinnati Reds and Arizona D'Backs sent their investors to the ticket window with each pushing their win streak to 4 over the weekend. Arizona's streak put them atop of the MLB's money-makers at +$1650 on the year. The Milwaukee Brewers' skid continues as they have now dropped the cash in 8 straight games. Also over the weekend, the injury bug bit the St. Louis Cardinals in a big way. Albert Pujols, last year's NL MVP and this season's major league leader in home runs and RBIs, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a strained muscle on his right side. Sunday in the Nextel Cup series, Matt Kenseth passed teammate Jamie McMurray with just a few laps remaining as Roush Racing stole the show at Dover. Not only did Kenseth put his fans at the ticket counter, he also cut Jimmie Johnson's lead from 109 points to 74. Kevin Harvick finished third, followed by Jeff Burton and Kyle Busch. Defending champ Tony Stewart completed 38 laps before Ricky Rudd replaced him due to injury, as Rudd went on to finished 25th in the #20 Home Depot machine. On the greens, Carl Pettersson won not only the Memorial on Sunday but also the trip to the U.S. Open that comes with it. A Swede by way of England, Alabama and North Carolina, the 28-year-old playing in the tournament for the first time, shot a closing 1-under-par 71 to win by two strokes. The victory, his second on the PGA Tour, was worth $1,035,000. Comments or Questions? Email FaceOff@BetUS.com. --- by BetUSradio at 1800-sports.com on June 05, 2006
