During the 2007 NFL draft the Chiefs picked up LSU wide receiver Dwayne Bowe for their first round pick. For their second round pick they grabbed Tennessee defensive tackle Turk McBride. Chiefs third round pick was another defensive tackle, Tank Tyler from North Carolina State. They also running back Kolby Smith and Justin Medlock. The Kansas City Chiefs final picks were offensive tackle Herbert Taylor and tight end Michael Allan.
The Houston Texans finished the 2006 season with a 6-10 record, last in the AFC South division. Line backer DeMeco Ryans was ranked second for defensive with 156 tackles. For the 2007 NFL draft the Texans first round pick was Louisville defensive tackle Amobi Okoye. Their third round pick was wide reciever Jacoby Jones from Lane. Houston's fourth pick was DC Fred Bennett from South Carolina. They had two fifth round picks, DS Brandon Harrison from Stanford and Virginia Tech offensive tackle Brandon Frye. The Texans also picked up OG Kasey Studdard and ILB Zach Diles.
