First off the best horse is not always the favorite horse in that with so many people betting on the "sure thing", such online Kentucky Derby betting offers less value. Keep your eyes open for the underdogs, or the dark horses that have excellent chances but which, for some reason or another stay out of the spot-light.

Second, stay away from amateur Derby trainers and jockeys. You should choose a horse that belongs to a professional jockey. Also choose horses that have consistently and continually been racing for quite some time or who has a total of six races to its credit.

Third, the horse that you choose should be fit and fine and should have run at least as far as one mile and an eighth in a prep race. As a measurement to find the horses true potential, its breed and ancestry is studied and its in-bred potential for running a mile and a quarter distance of the Derby is deduced.

On the first Saturday in May, the infamous Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky, hosts the oldest and most popular consecutively held Thoroughbred horse racing event in the United States. The first jewel of the Triple Crown, the Kentucky Derby is, one of the most anticipated events in the horse racing and horse race betting world. Place all your wagers on the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby by Saturday, May 2nd at 6PM!
