Slice became very popular and is now putting his efforts towards becoming a professional mixed martial arts fighter. He currently trains with retired MMA fighter Bas Rutten.

On June 23, 2007, Kimbo Slice made his sanctioned MMA debut against former WBO Heavyweight champion boxer Ray Mercer at Cage Fury Fighting Championships 5 in Atlantic City. Slice defeated Mercer with a guillotine choke at 1:12 into the first round! On October 11, 2007, Proelite.com announced that they had signed Slice to a long-term deal and that he would make his debut on the November 10 EliteXC. Kimbo was set to fight Mike Bourke but he sustained a shoulder injury so Kimbo took on Bo Cantrell and defeated him in 19 seconds into the first round by submission due to strikes.



On Saturday, February 16, 2008 Kimbo Slice will step into the ring vs MMA pioneer Tank Abbott in EliteXC STREET CERTIFIED! The fight will be held at the Bank United Center at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida. The night begins at 7:30 PM EST with undercard bouts streamed on ProElite.com before the 10:00 PM Main Event which will air LIVE on Showtime. Kimbo Slice won by KO 43 seconds into the first round due to strikes. At the fight his weight was announced at an all-time low of 234lbs, a far cry from his street fighting days of 280lbs.



On May 31, 2008, Kimbo fought in the main event of the first ever mixed martial arts event shown on prime time network television, EliteXC: Primetime against James Thompson. Thompson was winning the first two rounds but in third round, Kimbo Slice threw a haymaker to Thompson's left ear, which ruptured Thompson's cauliflower. This was soon followed by three unanswered punches to a standing Thompson, which led to a referee stoppage and a controversial win for Slice.



A Kimbo Slice vs. Ken Shamrock fight was signed for October 4, 2008 to take place at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida as part of EliteXC "Saturday Night Fights" broadcasted live on CBS. The winner of the fight will most likely take on Brett Rogers. Kimbo Slice is a huge favorite to win this fight.
