Lebron Will Soon Enough Be a Sure Thing

You just kinda know. There is no research to be done, no analysis of any kind. It's simply a sure thing; what we expert gamblers like to call a lock.

I'll never forget where I was when Michael Jordan hit his famous last shot against the Utah Jazz in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals to give the Bulls an 87-86 victory and their sixth championship. I was out at a dance club, with no view of the game in sight. Ok, so you probably think that I had no stake in the game or just did not care. You couldn't be more wrong. I was actually a big Bulls fan and had bet a substantial amount on the Bulls, who were getting the spread. See, the game was in the Delta Center and the Jazz were favored by a couple of points. So why would I not keep close track of my investment? I guess you could say I just sort of knew; it was Michael Jordan. History smiles on players of his caliber. There was no way Jordan was going to lose a championship with his career coming to a close.

It's been a while since we have seen greatness like that. A while until Lebron showed up, that is. I think we all expected this to come, but not so soon. The kid, or should I say the man, is 21 years old. Let me repeat that he is only 21 years old. He is so far ahead of the curve, there is no curve anymore. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks: Lebron will soon become the surest thing ever and the greatest basketball player of all time. There, I said it. I started to realize this while watching Game 3 of the Cavs vs. Pistons series. I got that Michael kind of feeling when Lebron sunk his game-winning three pointer to start their three-game winning streak against Detroit. As the ball left his hand, I just knew it would go in. I didn't even have to watch. By the way, Lebron recorded his second triple-double of the playoffs that night. I don't remember MJ ever doing that against the Pistons.

Now that the 2007 March Madness has arrived, we are ready to offer everyone college basketball predictions!

Then I started to think back. Lebron has been doing this during the entire 2006 playoffs. This leads me back to my assumption that he will one day be the greatest. The holy trinity of basketball greats includes Magic, Michael, and Larry. Lebron is a mixture of all three. It is almost as if the man upstairs took the best of these three legends and made a superhuman machine. This machine is Lebron. His Game 3 and 5 winners against the Wizards were more powerful than Michael, with more finesse than Larry or Magic. This also comes with the weight of the world on his young shoulders and very little supporting cast to help. I have already expressed my feelings about his Game 3 winner against Detroit. But that was just the start and that game was more than a week ago. Let's ignore his two triple-doubles prior to Game 3 and his 31 points per game average. I am willing to ignore the fact that against the big bad Pistons he has upped his assists to 7.0 per game and that his minutes per are second to no one. What made these feelings begin to overflow was what Lebron would do in the next week.

First, he made Rasheed Wallace look like a fool and took Game 4 in Cleveland, even though it was again predicted he would not. All James did in that game was come one assist and two rebounds shy of yet another triple-double with 22 points, 9 assists, and 8 boards. Well, at this point I started to think that it was really nice, and a great accomplishment that Lebron could even lift the Cavs to six games, which no one thought they could do. I simply had no clue about what he would next. He scored 32 points to lift his team to a Game 5 victory in Detroit. Suddenly the King had the mighty Pistons on their knees, kissing his feet.

Win or lose, this guy's legend is already defined. That was the theme Friday night as the Cavs lost a close one at home 84-82 in Game 6. This theme could not be truer as James scored 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. This game pretty much encapsulated the fact that James is not a sure thing yet. But neither was Jordan, until he was in his late twenties. This goes to show that Lebron might not be peaking yet, but look out. He will be a sure bet soon and will surpass everyone else in history before you know it. The future is now and I am a witness.
