Bet on NBA: All-Star Game Ripe for Betting OpportunitiesBy D. S. WilliamsonOn February 17th is the NBA All-Star game. That makes it roughly about a week away. Even though BetUS NBA odds haven't been posted for the game yet, it is never too early for BetUS NBA bettors to start thinking about strategy. The NBA All-Star game is ripe with betting opportunities! When the NBA puts on an All-Star game they do it with style. NBA All-Star Weekend isn't just about one game. It's an event! BetUS is going to have odds on each of the events as well as an against the spread line and an over/under line. I suspect that the over/under line is going to raise some eyebrows. After all, last years' game ended up 153 to 132 in favor of the West. That's 285 points. Man, that's cool! Okay, so let's get to it, shall we? Each event provides terrific opportunities for BetUS NBA bettors, but, of course, it's the Slam Dunk Contest that's going to have everybody glued to the tube. It does every year! First, let's discuss the Skills Challenge: This is going to come down to Dwayne Wade versus Kobe Bryant - - just like last year. Wade has won this thing two years in a row. Why not again, right? I'm not going to say that he won't win it this year, but this Miami team - - man, they're bad! They're actually the worst team in the NBA. Worse than the T'Wolves, worse then the Clippers, worse then the Supersonics. They are so bad that I've lost count of the number of similes and metaphors I've used to describe their ineptitude. That makes me think about Kobe Bryant and wonder if the Kobester is maybe the play in the Skills Challenge this year. He's feeling pretty good about his team this year. I mean, they just picked up Pau Gasol and they'll get Andrew Bynum back eventually. That makes the Lakshow a good bet to stir up some trouble in the Western Conference Playoffs. So, my money will be on Kobe in this one. Other challengers could be New Orleans's favorite son, at least during the NBA All-Star Weekend, Chris Paul, and Steve Nash from the Suns - - that is, if Nash goes. Free Pick: The Kobester Three-Point Shootout: Jason Kapono, another Miami player, won this even last year. I'm not drinking his Kool-Aid this year. Becky, do you really think that Kapono has a chance against Dirk Nowitzki and Gilbert Arenas this year? Uh, I didn't think so, Beckster! BetUS should have odds on Nowitzki, Arenas, Kapono, and probably Jason Terry. For a long-shot I like this Anthony Parker kid from the Toronto Raptors. He's hitting over 48 % of his three-point shots and averaging almost 12 points game. He's my pick - - if he goes. Free Pick: Anthony Parker Slam-Dunk Contest: Past winners have included Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, Spud Webb, Cedric Ceballos and Harold Miner. This is usually the highlight of the All-Star Weekend Activities because it produces the most fireworks! I mean, we're talking backboard shattering, rim rattling, super earth shaking dunks! The kind that wake you up at night and have you saying, "Man that was awesome!" It's also a great betting opportunity because even though M.J., Dominique, and Miner were favorites, nobody saw Ceballos winning this thing and Webb was only 5' 8". That means that a long-shot can come in and take this thing! The favorite this year will no doubt be no-cursing superman, Dwight Howard, from the Orlando Magic. He's like Amare Stoudemire times four - - that's how good the guy is. He moves like a gazelle with wings. The man is awesome, but he's also going to be the BetUS favorite. So, I'm taking a stand against. I like one of these guys at nice, juicy BetUS odds! Click for expert NBA Predictions from the World's Top Handicappers and for Free NBA Picks from World-Famous Handicappers! Gerald Green: Won last years' contest. He has a lot of pride and will come out swinging - - er, dunking. Anyhow, I think he will do well this year, but it's hard to win this thing back-to-back unless your name is Michael Jordan. So, I can't play him. He'll have to do something very special in order to get past Howard. Not likely! Jamario Moon: The dude's a rookie and can you think of a better name for a basketball player? Take it to the moon, Jamario! To the moon! Okay, I'm not sure how well he will compete in this thing. Rookies do okay, but they usually are favored when they do well and all eyes will be on Howard this year. That puts Jamario in a bad spot betting wise. Still, the BetUS NBA Betting odds should be HUGE on Jamario. That makes him a play just 'cause, know what I mean? Rudy Gay: I absolutely love this guy this year! He's a smooth 6'9" type guy with looks like he's gliding in the air! Again, everybody wants to give the award to Howard this year. So, whoever beats Big Dwight is going to have to put on a show. Guess what? I think Gay will do it! He's about as talented as any player to enter the NBA in a long-time! Notice how the Grizzlies were willing to give up on Gasol last week in that trade with the Lakers? Why? Because Gay's a bad-ass! Watch him sky during this contest. The legend starts then! Like Jamario, there's also a nice slogan for this guy - - "I'm Going Gay all Day!" Put it in the books! Free Pick: Rudy Gay I'll have my over/under bet and against the spread picks next week some time. Until then, good luck! --- by BetUS at 1800-sports.com on February 07, 2008
