NBA Basketball Betting - Boston. . . Who Cares! It's All about the WestBy Eric WilliamsEnough about the Boston Celtics and their immense first round struggles against the Atlanta Hawks. What about the defending champion, San Antonio Spurs and their second round online betting matchup with the upstart, but legitimate New Orleans Hornets, one of the most featured teams in the BetUS Locker Room this season? Or how about, what is likely the least talked about second round series taking place in either conference, between the Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz? All four of these aforementioned Western Conference teams have lit up the BetUS Sportsbook at one point or another during the regular season and are offering the BetUS NBA betting community excellent NBA Odds in their respective second round series matchups. Here is a look at each of the four teams competing in the Western Conference semifinals. New Orleans Hornets vs. San Antonio Spurs Simply put, the San Antonio Spurs, (4-3 SU, 2-4-1 ATS) who have failed to win consecutive championships in the Tim Duncan era, suddenly have the look of a tired, aging club, while the New Orleans Hornets, (6-1 SU, 5-2 ATS) have looked faster, fresher and more eager than their veteran counterparts. The Hornets, the No. 2 ATS team in the league during the regular season, (50-30-2 ATS) suddenly have the best point guard on the planet in Chris Paul, who is undoubtedly headed toward even greater heights that will likely land in the Basketball Hall of Fame one day. Paul is impossible to keep out of the lane with his quickness and combines his immense athletic ability with the craftiness of a seasoned veteran, consistently making the right plays, whether it be a pass to an open teammate or a shot for himself. Bettors should know that the Spurs were ranked just 18th in ATS wins in the regular season, (37-43-2 ATS). Series Odds -- Spread -- Moneyline -- Over/Under San Antonio N/A +220 N/A New Orleans N/A -300 N/A After limiting opponents to just 90.6 points per game during the regular season while scoring 95.4 per contest, the Spurs are allowing a whopping 100.7 points per game in the postseason while scoring just 96.9 points per game. The Hornets are averaging 102.4 points per game in the playoffs while allowing a microscopic 90.9 points per contest after scoring 100.9 per game in the regular season and allowing 95.6 per contest. I've said it time and time again this season and the Hornets have proven it over and over that they are, indeed for real this season. The Hornets are 5-2 against the spread in the playoffs while San Antonio has managed to go an unimpressive 2-4-1 against the spread in the postseason. The Spurs are 1-4 in O/U wagers this postseason and +700 in the BetUS Sportsbook to win the Western Conference title while the Hornets are 3-3 in O/U wagers in the playoffs and +200 to win the Western Conference in the BetUS Sportsbook. Los Angeles Lakers vs. Utah Jazz I don't care how many people 'hate' on the often aloof Kobe Bryant, I say he's the closest thing we've seen to M.J. retired and is undeniably one of the best players to ever play the game, (though he'll never be as beloved as Jordan). Bettors should remember that Bryant, who torched the Utah Jazz, (4-3 SU, 3-4 ATS) for 38 points on just 16 shots by making 21-of-23 free throws and eight of his field goals attempts, including a three-pointer, led the Los Angeles Lakers, (5-0 SU, 5-0 ATS) to the fifth-best ATS record in the league during the regular season, (47-33-1 ATS). Bryant is now a different player, than the one who entered the league as a highly touted phenom out of Philadelphia or the one who more selfish one who combined with Shaquille O'Neal to win three consecutive title to usher in the new millennium. Bryant now has a solid core of 'complimentary' players he has willingly turned to this season, including mid-season acquisition Paul Gasol, who has fit in perfectly with Bryant and the team's third option, athletic forward Lamar Odom, who seems to blossom when the spotlight is taken off of him. The Lakers have also been getting consistent, solid production and energy off the bench from Luke Walton, Sasha Vujacic and Rony Turiaf. While the Utah Jazz were also one of the top 10 teams in the BetUS Sportsbook this season, ranking seventh in ATS wins, (46-36 ATS) Utah has not been playing very well in the postseason. After putting up 106.2 points per game and holding opponents to 99.3 per contest, the Jazz are struggling in a big way in the NBA playoffs, particularly on the offensive end where they are putting up just 91.6 per contest, down nearly 15 points per game from the regular season, while allowing 91.0 per game defensively. Jazz power forward Carlos Boozer, looks nothing like the all-star player who averaged 21.1 points per game on 54 percent shooting in the regular season, as he is scoring just 15.9 per contest in the playoffs on a dismal 42.9 percent shooting mark. Point guard Deron Williams is trying mightily to carry the Jazz, putting up 19.9 points per game after averaging 18.8 per game during the regular season, but something is clearly amiss with Utah. Starters, Ronnie Brewer and Andrei Kirilenko, both double digit scorers in the regular season, are each averaging just nine points per game in the playoffs. The Lakers meanwhile have gotten even better on offense since the playoffs started and are averaging 113.6 per game in the playoffs, up from their 108.6 per game in the regular season. Defensively, Los Angeles is allowing 100.8 points per contest in the playoffs down just a fraction from their average of 101.3 points per game allowed during the regular season. The Lakers are 1-4 in O/U wagers this postseason and -180 to win the Western Conference in the BetUS Sportsbook while the Jazz are 2-5 in O/U wagers this postseason and +1500 to win the Western Conference title in the BetUS Sportsboook. --- by BetUS at 1800-sports.com on May 08, 2008
