NFL Betting Picks Week 1 Matchup: Minnesota Vikings vs New Orleans Saints

As the teams head to their training camps, NFL football betting fans await the football regular season kick-off with Week 1 action in New Orleans on September 9, in a matchup of last season's NFC Championship Game. As we all know, the Saints won that game last year en route to winning the Super Bowl after a late fourth quarter interception by Viking quarterback Brett Favre.

Although Favre is still holding out on announcing his come-back (or his retirement), all NFL odds are based upon the premise that he will return. And therefore, the Vikings are picked to win the NFC North division again.

However, it will be quite a different season for Minnesota if Favre decides to hang up his cleats. They still have Adrian Peterson, but he was known for his many fumbles last season, as well as his private life dating drama.

Sean Payton's Saints are returning to the 2010 season with essentially the same roster as they had last year. They didn't make any changes...but did they need to? New Orleans resigned all but one of the players from the Super Bowl-winning team. They brought glory football back to New Orleans by winning their first Super Bowl in franchise history. This game against Minnesota played in New Orleans will be the first-ever home season opener for the team.

The betting odds for this game depend drastically on one player. And Favre has stated as late as July 21 that he has made no deadline for making his decision. Favre, who will turn 41 this October, played perhaps his best season of his otherwise excellent career last season. To be fairer, the odds should be posted as Vikings (with Favre) and Vikings (without Favre). Once his decision is made public, NFL betting will turn into high gear.

With Favre leading Minnesota, they seem to be a good bet for this game. The Vikings will come into this matchup pumped and ready to revenge their season-ending loss of last year. Considering that that loss was more due to the carelessness of the Vikings rather than the strength of the Saints, I would take the Vikings to win the rematch. Favre is fierce, no matter how old he gets!
