The donations were expected to arrive to the Houston Astrodome Saturday afternoon. "Our first attempt to help was to send a cargo plane full of fruits to the families in need from our home in Costa Rica immediately after the hurricane hit, but unfortunately we ran into red-tape issues with the U.S. powers that be. So we took matters into our own hands. "With the help of many including Marcie Cardwell of MAC Presents (Nashville), John Allen, manager of Costco in Arlington, Texas, Jason Wright of Clear Channel Communications (Nashville office), RE West Trucking (Nashville), the management of the Houston Astrodome, and others who sacrificed their time or assets, we were able to put together the Nine.com relief effort within hours. "We now question how the U.S. federal government could not move as fast. We literally were able to find truckloads of available supplies just by calling from our home base in Costa Rica thousands of miles away, and we were able to make arrangements to have them delivered within 12 hours directly to the people who needed them the most. "Watching these tragic events unfold on CNN in Costa Rica, it appears something in the U.S. government is broken and needs to be fixed immediately. Our fellow Americans deserve to be cared for immediately and effectively by their respective governments when a disaster of this magnitude hits. "Whether we come from Central, North or South America, we are all considered Americans.
