Northern Giant Preakness Stakes Betting Odds

Five-time Preakness winner trainer D. Wayne Lukas will be running long shot Northern Giant in the 2010 Preakness Stakes this Saturday evening. Westrock Stables' Northern Giant will have jockey Terry Thompson (rode Dublin in the Derby) on the mount. "I'm excited to be able to ride him," mentioned Thompson. "To lose a mount in such an important race is tough, but to pick up another is a great thing." He went to say, "Northern Giant runs a lot like Dublin. He likes to be in the middle of the pack and then make a late run." With the current Preakness Betting Odds on Northern Giant at +3000 at Sportsbook.com, a small wager on him to win would pay off great.

This past Monday Northern Giant breezed three furlongs in :36 2/5, galloping out a half-mile in :49 4/5, the third fastest time on the day. D. Wayne Lukas was pleased with his work along with his other Preakness Contender Dublin. "He went well," Lukas replied.

Northern Giant has a 1-2-2 record in nine starts. He didn't break his maiden until his sixth start, when he was a three-year-old back on February 4th at Oakland Park. Soon after, he came in third place in his first graded stakes race on February 20th in the Grade II Risen Star Stakes. Northern Giant followed up with a second place finish in the Grade II Lane's End Stakes on March 27th. In his last race on April 10th in the Grade I Arkansas Derby Stakes, Northern Giant fell short coming in ninth (last place).

Northern Giant is a 3-year-old colt, owned by Westrock Stables. His trainer is D. Wayne Lukas and Terry Thompson will be the jockey. He will be the tenth different jockey to ride Northern Giant. His pedigree is from Giant's Causeway and Jessi Take Charge by War Chant. He is posting 30/1 odds to win the Preakness Stakes (a $10 wager pays $300). Good luck betting on the 135th Preakness and enjoy watching all the intense horse race betting action from Pimlico Race Course, broadcasting live on NBC this Saturday, May 15th at 6:05pm ET.
