MAC West Conference - Northern Illinois Huskies Preview
Head Coach Joe Novak's Northern Illinois Huskies have had six straight winning seasons, and one of those ended with a bowl win. They can only blame themselves for missing last year's post-season, as they failed to bury Akron, which pulled off an upset win in the last 10 seconds of the game. But this could be the year the Huskies win the MAC Championship and go to the Motor City Bowl.

On Offense, six return from 2005, when they scored 32 PPG, including seniors QB Phil Horvath and 1st TM MAC RB Garrett Wolfe. They do lose their best WR, but the Huskies will still put up points. On Defense, the Huskies are young but they have some game experience. They gave up just 23 PPG in '05 and have seven starters back, so there should be an improvement. The Huskies may have the best kicking duo in the MAC with K Chris Nendick and P Andy Dittbenner, although they lose both returnmen. The MAC Championship loss was tough, but 2006 looks like a very good year.
A difficult non-conference schedule includes trips to Ohio State to open the season, and Iowa in late October. Three of five divisional games are on the road, but they host the big one vs. Toledo in DeKalb. The Huskies will remember last season's disappointment, and if they win the MAC West again this year, they'll go bowling.
