NCAA Football Wagering - Online College Football Wagering

NCAA football wagering is a great way to spice up the already exciting world of college football. Until recently, NCAA football wagering, if you didn't live in Nevada or near Atlantic City, could be problematic. Local bookmakers can be shady at best and since the practice is illegal, there was really no recourse for you if your bookmaker didn't pay up. Additionally, although friendly wagers among coworkers, friends and family can be fun, there is only so much money to be made from these people. That is where online college football wagering comes in. It is legal in most areas, isn't prosecuted in the areas where it isn't legal; it is fun, and you have a variety of reputable online sites that you can deal with.

There are three basic ways to participate in online college football wagering; that is, there are basically three types of bets you can place. They are: straight bets, totals (over/under), and money line wagers. Each of these bets is a little bit different and which you choose is largely a matter of strategy or personal preference.

The first type of NCAA football wagering is the straight bet. You are basically betting against the house based on the point spread. For example, pretend that Texas is favored to win over Oregon by 7 points. If you bet on Texas to win, that means Texas has to win by more than 7 points for you to win your bet. If Texas wins by 7 points, you push and no money changes hand, if Texas wins by less than 7 points or loses the game, then you lose your money. Unless otherwise stated, you generally need to bet $110 to win $100 in this type of bet.

Another online college football wagering option is betting totals, or over/under bets. Basically, the house decides that the total score of two teams playing each other will be 50. If you bet over, you are betting that the total of the points scored will be over 50. If it is, you win, if it is under, you lose, and if it is exactly 50, you push with the house.

The last basic way to participate in NCAA football wagering is the money line. In a money line bet, the team you pick simply has to win. Say the team that you pick to win has a money line of -160. This means that you have to lay out $160 in order to win $100. On the other hand, say you pick a team with a money line of +180; that means if you bet $100 and win, you make $180. Teams with negative money lines are the teams that are favored to win.
