Past Super Bowl Winner

The Past Super Bowl winner, the New England Patriots, are predicted by many to defend their title as the world champions of football in the 2006 Super Bowl. If this past Super Bowl winner scores another victory, it will be the first time in the history of the game that a team has earned three Super Bowl titles in a row. The Patriots are already dominating the 21st century with their wins; this past Super Bowl winner has won three out of four Super Bowl games since 2000. In spite of a few injuries and setbacks, the Patriots seem likely to make Super Bowl history in 2006.

The success of the Patriots is reminiscent of the Green Bay Packers' victories led by supercoach, Vince Lombardi. Like this other past Super Bowl winner, the Patriots have won 9 consecutive post-season victories, and they have surpassed the Packer's record of 10 playoff victory games with 11 wins. The coach of the Patriots, Bill Belichick, seems to be another Lombardi, and with characteristic humility, gives all of the credit for the Patriot's success to his player. Star Patriot's player, Tom Brady, said, "We've never self-proclaimed ourselves as anything. If you guys say we're great, we'll accept the compliment." An important ingredient to this past Super Bowl winner's success is character and humility.

There have been many dramatic stories in 2005 about this past Super Bowl winner. The Patriots have seen a few major injuries among their players, and although some consider this a considerable setback in the Patriot's odds of winning yet again, others see recovery from these temporary losses as an added boost to spur the Patriots on to victory. The world was watching as Tom Bruschi made a triumphant comeback after a stroke shortly following the Super Bowl last year. Although he had to learn once again how to speak and to walk properly, he returned to lead the defense in a triumphant victory over the Buffalo Bills in October. Although many were skeptical about Smith's ability to return to his usual style of playing after breaking his leg this past year, many have reported that this receiver is more of an asset than before he broke his leg.

Clearly, this past Super Bowl winner can achieve victory yet again in spite of this year's setbacks. The main reason for skepticism is a sour grapes attitude that since no team yet has won three Super Bowl victories in a row; it can't happen to this past Super Bowl winner. However, there is a first time for everything, and the Patriots seem poised to make history in 2006.
