Today on the show: Pete Cataldo for Derby talk, Kevin Greenstein for the NHL playoffs and Eric Williams for NBA/NFLPhilly got it right by Matthew Ross![]() Citizens Bank Park Recently, I had a chance to visit the new Philadelphia Phillies ballpark. It's called Citizens Bank Park, located on Citizens Bank Way (can you believe it? You can even buy streets now!). Once you get past the commercialism of the area (like the Comcast-sponsored parking lot), the setup in Philly is pretty amazing. The visit was a chance for me to check a new stadium I had never been to and place a couple of bets on the action that I was taking in live. Basically, you have one giant sports complex where ALL the professional stadiums are located. There's Lincoln Financial Field where the Eagles play, the Wachovia Center where the Sixers/Flyers/Soul(AFL) play, and even the old Spectrum where the AHL's Phantoms play. Absolutely ingenius. All you have to do step into a cab from the airport and tell the driver to go to the sports complex. It's probably the only such arrangement in North America. Upon arriving at the Phillies game, I was immediately impressed with the facilities. The natural grass is perfect, the stands are new yet elegant, and the architecture is modern yet nostalgic. Among the sea of red, there I was, set to cheer for the Washington Nationals, as I had them on the money line. Settling into my right field bleacher seat, armed with my soda and hot dog, I began to assess the situation. Ever the astute bettor, I size up the weather, the form of each pitcher in their warm ups, even the tone of the crowd. There's nothing quite like attending a live event with something on the line. Sure, you can root for your favorite team, but adding excitement with a wager can make all the difference in your level of enjoyment. A sporting event seen in person where you had winning wager will forever be remembered for the thrill of victory, whereas taking in a game with no wager will get lost in your subconscious in a matter of weeks. Washington got out to an big lead and never really looked back. Nick Johnson was a monster on the night, as he rapped out four hits, including two homers. I was loud and enthusiastic in the stands, which is very risky in Philly. Nevertheless, I wasn't going to let a few thousand gloomy faces ruin my winning buzz. Heck, by the third inning, I had also secured my over bet for the game as well. All in all, it was a very good night and betting helped me make the most out of it. Not only was I able to win my bet, but I got an even bigger satisfaction out of doing it in a visiting ball park. This could be the start of a very regular thing for me. Wherever BetUS sends me, I will surely place a wager on the event. Now, I can get the company to send me back here in late September, then I'll really be cooking. I could take in an Eagles game, a Flyers preseason game and a Philles game- all in the same complex! Now that would be betting excitement! Comments or Questions?
