Pleasant Prince Odds to Win 2010 Preakness Stakes![]() Pleasant Prince 2010 Preakness Contender Pleasant Prince Preakness Stakes Betting Odds Newcomer to the Triple Crown season is Ken Ramsey's Pleasant Prince, coming in with mid-long shot Preakness Stakes odds at 20/1. Placing a small bet on Pleasant Prince would definitely pay of great, but can he pull off the upset? According to the always optimistic world-class owner and breeder maybe not as much as usual. "We're probably not going to win the race. If I was betting, I wouldn't be going in with both hands," Mr. Ramsey proclaimed. "I try to be realistic. He's probably not going to be the first, second, third, or fourth choice. He's running against some very good horses, many of them more accomplished than us." The current Preakness Betting Odds on Pleasant Prince are +2200 at Sportsbook.com. Trainer Wesley Ward will be asking a lot from Pleasant Prince this Saturday as this will be his third race in five weeks. He was working towards racing in the 136th Kentucky Derby but once that fell through, the decision making became tough. "I don't like to make excuses, but I will not come to Keeneland (to race on Polytrack) if I'm ever in a similar situation. I will run on dirt. I initially wanted to go to Arkansas (for the Arkansas Derby), but Wesley wanted the Blue Grass, so we compromised. I said we can go to the Blue Grass if he trains well over it, and he did." Mr. Ramsey went on. "But Wesley said the track changed from the morning to the afternoon (day of the Blue Grass). In the morning it was cold and congealed. After it got hotter in the afternoon, it started becoming sticky and gooey. Some handled it and some didn't. Either our horse didn't or he wasn't as good as we thought he was." In his last two starts, Pleasant Prince came in seventh in the Grade 1 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes on April 10th and third in the Grade III Derby Trial on April 24th. Since then he has been training at Keeneland. Last Sunday (May 9th) Pleasant Prince worked over the Polytrack nailing a solid five furlongs in :59 flat. Trainer Wesley Ward was very pleased with his performance. "He came out of his work awesome. He's doing terrific. I think we've got a good chance. We'd have had a much better chance if we had just pointed for this." This will be Trainer Wesley Ward's first Preakness Stakes shot at glory and owner Ken Ramsey's second attempt. His first was in 2003 when Ten Cents a Shine finished last after being eased. He bowed a tendon during the race. "I might not be betting heavily, but I would bet on one thing: We will have a better trip than we did that year," Ramsey laughed. Pleasant Prince is a 3-year-old colt, owned by Kenneth L. & Sarah K. Ramsey. His trainer is Wesley A. Ward and Julien R. Leparoux remains on as the jockey. His pedigree is from Indy King and Archduchess by Pleasant Tap. He is posting 22/1 odds to win the 135th Preakness Stakes (a $100 wager pays $2200). Good luck betting on the Preakness and enjoy watching all the intense horse race betting action from Pimlico Race Course. The second leg of the prestigious Triple Crown will broadcast live on NBC this Saturday, May 15th beginning at 4:30pm ET with a race time set for 6:15pm ET. --- by Arthur Bodley at 1800-sports.com on May 12, 2010
