This past weekend, at Beech Bend Raceway Park 's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series race, the string seemed frayed and ready to part.The veteran driver broke the first strand by setting elapsed time and top speed track records to qualify number one. His 5.707 time, and 252.14 speed easily took the big spot away from defending TAFC champion, Mick Snyder. The second strand let go when the ladder gave him a "bye" run in the first round and the third was parted by a win in the semi-final round. "Every mechanical issue we've faced, they've corrected. If luck were only a machine, they'd have wrenched it onto our side. That string is going to break and this team is going to win."
