2011 Super Bowl MVP Betting Odds

Betting on the Super Bowl MVP can be a very risky proposition. First, you must decide which of the two teams will win the Super Bowl, and then you must decide which player on that team will be awarded the coveted title of Super Bowl MVP.

Since the best teams from the AFC and NFC are represented at the Super Bowl, more often than not neither team is heavily favored. Though there have occasionally been some big mismatches (any Super Bowl where the Buffalo Bills played comes to mind), you will find that it may be hard to pick a winner.

Once you have decided who you want to be the winner of the game itself, now you can get on to deciding which of the standout players you think will win the Super Bowl MVP. Generally speaking, the Super Bowl MVP will be the best offensive player for the winning team. Before you automatically place your bet for the Quarterback, keep this in mind--Wide Receivers and Running Backs win almost as often as Quarterbacks. Each of these three offensive positions can all be equally important, so look critically at all of them before you make a bet.

You can use regular season stats to help you with your decision, although playoff stats are usually more help. The reasoning behind this is that some players do what is called a "pucker" in sports terms. A player may have a ton of great stats in the regular season and then pucker in the playoffs. This means they fold under the pressure and do not perform up to their usual level. If a player has been puckering in the early round of the playoffs or especially in the conference title game, you may want to think twice before you place a bet on them for Super Bowl MVP.

If more than one player has stepped up and played extraordinarily well during the playoffs, then it is your call as to which you should choose to bet on for Super Bowl MVP. Check on the odds and use a combination of that, plus experience and previous playoff performance, to make your decision.

You should never forget about the defense, though. If a defensive player had a game-winning sack, interception, or a series of great tackles, they very well could win Super Bowl MVP. Again, use a combination of playoff performance in previous rounds and regular-season performance to make an informed decision.

Using these techniques, you should be able to make an educated bet as to who will be the next Super Bowl MVP.
