The Tenneessee Volunteers finished the regular season with a 23-10 record, second in the Southeastern (east) Conference. This was mostly contributed from the loss of star guard Chris Lofton, who missed four games with a badly sprained ankle. Once Lofton returned, the Vols went 7-1, beating Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Alabama and Florida down the stretch. Lofton was the SEC's leading scorer with 20.6 ppg and shot 41.9 percent on 3-pointers.
For their first round game, Tenneessee beat Long Beach State 121-86. They beat Virginia 77-74 for their second round game. They lost by one point to Ohio State 85-84 in the
Sweet 16 odds.
