NFL Week 15 Picks - Bet 49ers vs Chargers - Thursday, December 16th, 8:20PM ET NFL

The NFL week 15 picks on the 2010 Pro football betting season are out on the San Francisco 49ers vs the San Diego Chargers Thursday Night Football match-up. This Thursday the San Francisco 49ers head to Qualcomm Stadium as an 8 1/2 point underdog to battle the San Diego Chargers.

The San Francisco 49ers offense vs the San Diego Chargers defense favor the Chargers. The 49ers are 23rd in yards and 27th in points, while the Chargers are 1st in yards allowed and 10th in points allowed. The 49ers run the ball well even though their main running back is out for the year. They are going to try and run the ball against this 4th ranked rushing defense that lately has been giving up some yards. The way this game might go, the 49ers might need to pass a little more than usual. It will be interesting to see how the 49ers will protect their quarterback, which they aren't that good in doing, against a team that is 2nd in sacks. The NFL week 15 picks advantage goes to the Chargers.

The San Diego Chargers offense vs the San Francisco 49ers defense is similar. The Chargers are 2nd in yards and 3rd in points, while the 49ers are 11th in yards allowed and 18th in points allowed. The real matchup is the 2nd ranked passing offense against this 20th ranked passing defense. The 49ers can get pressure on the quarterback and the Chargers do give up some sacks. However I'm giving the NFL picks advantage to the Chargers because they have one of the elite quarterbacks, Phillip Rivers, who will be throwing the ball all over the place.

The special teams are a good matchup. The 49ers are 28th in kickoff return average and 14th in punt return average, while the Chargers are 10th in kickoff return average and 20th in punt return average. The 49ers are 13th in kickoff return average allowed and 22nd in punt return average allowed, while the Chargers are 11th in kickoff return average allowed and 22nd in punt return average allowed. Both teams have explosive returners. It will depend on what occurs more. It seems as though the Chargers are going to be scoring, which means the 49ers kickoff return team will be on the field the most. If that's the case, the 49ers are not good in that department, so the advantage goes to the Chargers. However, if there's any way the 49ers can stop the Chargers and force them to punt, the NFL week 15 picks advantage will switch to the 49ers. But for now I'm giving it to the Chargers.

The coaching staff favors the Chargers. The head coach of the 49ers Mike Singletary has that tough love mentality that gets this team motivated. The defensive coordinator of the 49ers Greg Manusky has done a great job with this defense. The Chargers have a great offensive minded coach in Norv Turner that has Phillip Rivers as his quarterback. Norv Turner lets Rivers do what he wants on offense. The Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera has this defensive playing on a high level. All of his schemes and play calling works well against any offense. I will take the great offensive minded coach and a great quarterback over most defenses. Advantage goes to the Chargers.

My NFL week 15 picks on the San Francisco 49ers vs the San Diego Chargers Thursday Night Football game are out. This looks like that the Chargers will run away with this one. But there are a few things to point out. Even though the stats don't say so, but the 49ers do run the ball well. The only reason why they are this far down is because they only give it to 1 person. Now that their running back is out, they are now giving the ball to 2 running backs and they have been doing well. The Chargers have been giving up some rushing yards as of late, so I could see the 49ers be successful in the running game. The Chargers also gives up some sacks and gives up a lot of fumbles. I could see that as being a problem. If the 49ers can force the Chargers to punt, the 49ers are good in the punt return game and that can be a big difference in the game. Last week the 49ers put in quarterback Alex Smith who played well last week. However that was at home against a bad defense. This game is on the road against a great Chargers pass defense. I do think that the 49ers can keep it close until the 3rd quarter in which the Chargers will be too much for the 49ers. The Chargers win this 30-17.
