If looking at stats and opinions is anything to go by, this is going to be a very close World Cup Final. There are 32 qualifying football teams in this year's World Cup standings; Angola, Korea, Argentina, Mexico, Netherlands, Australia, Paraguay, Brazil, Poland, Costa Rica, Portugal, Ivory Coast, Saudi Arabia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Serbia and Montenegro, Spain, Ecuador, Sweden, England, Switzerland, France, Togo, Germany, Trinidad and Tobago, Ghana, Iran, Tunisia, Ukraine, Italy, Japan and the United States of America. The final draw by FIFA to divide the 32 teams into 8 groups will take place on December 9, 2005 in Leipzig, Germany. In addition to the draw, it will also determine where each team will play. This will provide a better view of the standings, as you would know into which group each team fell. Looking for a World Cup Final winner among the qualified teams is a difficult task. Croatia, France, Portugal, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia and Serbia and Montenegro are the only teams that had not lost a single game during the World Cup qualifying rounds. That being said, none of these teams has ever won the World Cup. There has also been a surprising amount of first-time qualifiers for World Cup 2006. Most noted and talked about is the African contingent lead by Angola. Who do spectators expect to see in the finals from this World Cup? The current Top 5 favorites to win the World Cup, according to the latest statistics, are Brazil, followed by Argentina, England, Germany, and finally the rank outsider, Italy. At 14th place, however, is an African team, Ghana, who some feel will do well and make it to the finals.

This World Cup 2006 is going to be very close and the World Cup Final will be wide open should Brazil lose its footing. After all it would not be the first time there was an upset in the World Cup rankings. Back in 1990 Cameroon beat Argentina as a rank outsider. Who will create the upsets this year and possibly walk away with the most prestigious title in soccer?
